Imagine you have four-year-old twin boys, and just as life is becoming more manageable, you decide to “try for a girl”, but you end up with THREE MORE BOYS!!! That’s exactly what happened to Vida and her family! Originally from West Africa, these folks have been living in Toronto for over seven years, and had been raising their twin boys here when Mom got pregnant with triplets!!! Despite the daily hardship of raising five boys with little family or other support, Mom and Dad almost always seem in good spirits, and are constantly laughing when we go to visit. (My husband says it's because they've gone crazy!)
Fortunately, the generosity of strangers has lent a helping hand. In response to a plea I posted on the discussion page at work, my colleagues donated six weeks supply of diapers and put together a load of Christmas gifts for the whole family their first holiday season. In 2006, our West-end POMs group conducted a diaper and grocery drive, while one colleague at work single-handedly shopped for, wrapped and donated gifts for the whole family! This photo collage celebrates the now annual Christmas pilgrimage made by my family to deliver the generous donations of strangers. As you can see from the photos, our two boys have become fast friends with their twin buddies from this remarkable family!
