"She was a very special woman, and I enjoyed her perspective on things. She was very no-nonsense. We met in French class at the office. I was quite a bit junior to her, both in rank and age, but we got along very well and I was very sad when she told me that her cancer would not go away with the treatments she received."

"Carol taught me many things, mainly through her example. She demonstrated practical intellectualism and the ability to think critically--anytime, anywhere. She was also very tolerant; her personal and cultural history had given her this. Her beautifully tended garden on Second Street remains a metaphor for life in my mind. Her wisdom, subtle courage and social compassion continue to teach me how to be brave, and truthful with myself, and those I love, as a mother, daughter, sister and friend. Carol, you are still here; you live in brightly coloured scarves and small tended gardens. You inspire livelihoods and the seeking of knowledge in friends and family."
R. Rogerson, Orillia

I am so glad to hear that you are celebrating Carola's 13th anniversary. In our Indian custom, there is a period of mourning for a period of 13 days (what a co-incidence!), after a person passses away.
I think of Carola, at least once a week, without fail. Call me a devoted friend or a devoted and crazy friend, but being an old sentimental fool that I am (I know Carola would have a chuckle at this one), I have still kept the very "first time sheet", that she wrote for me, at work. Every week, I have a glance at her handwriting, just to remind me of her and as my tribute to her.
