What is “Multiple Intelligences”? -
Howard Gardiner, in his educational treatise, “Frames of Mind” (1983), showed us that we can be intelligent in various ways. While traditional IQ tests uncover verbal-linguistic and logical-mathematical (and occasionally, visual-spatial) intelligences, Gardiner insists that at least five other intelligences exist which must be nurtured. These include: the inter– and intra- personal, rhythmic-musical, bodily-kinesthetic and naturalist intelligences.

“Discover Toronto” will allow your child to exercise his/her favoured intelligence(s) and develop the others in a variety of ways this summer. Each of the one-week programs incorporates several of the intelligences while focusing on a particular theme. The small group size in each class (max. 5 campers) will allow all participants to have a voice as they discover and expand the breadth of their intelligence against the backdrop of Toronto.
When will the program be offered? - “Discover Toronto” will be offered for one session only in the summer of 2006. The dates are as follows: Monday, July 31 – Friday, August 4. The one-week session is limited to FIVE campers.
Where will the program be held? - The program will take place in Toronto, with students meeting at Vera & Trevor’s house each morning between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m., as convenient for families involved. (The program proper begins daily at 9:00 a.m.) We are located in the south-west end of Toronto, with easy access to major highways leading to areas outside the city. The house is situated across the street from a park, and has a fenced back yard and a dog. Many days of the program include field trips; students will be supervised walking or traveling by public transit throughout the city. Generally, campers will be ready for pick-up by about 4 p.m., although families who need a later pick-up time can also be accommodated at no extra charge.
What is the cost? - Participation in the program is designed to meet the needs of students AND their families. The price for the session includes a healthy lunch and snacks each day as well as TTC costs and admission to all museums, galleries, etc. Various Art supplies are also included.
The cost of $325 per session (one week) includes everything. There is NO additional fee or cost. Please contact Vera if finances are a deterrent, or if you wish to make a donation to offset the cost of another child’s enrollment.
